Quds Day: Hope for liberating Palestine from grip of Israel

Friday, August 17, is Quds Day. It’s basically the biggest anti-Israel day in the Muslim world, which started in 1979, making this year the 33rd year since then. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has called for an enthusiastic participation in demonstrations marking International Quds Day. Liberating Palestine from the grip of Israel and its allies is a religious duty for all Muslims across the world, Fars News Agency quoted Khamenei as saying.

Speaking to ambassadors from Islamic countries ahead of ‘Qods Day’ (‘Jerusalem Day’), Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also said that a “horrible Zionist current” had been managing world affairs for “about 400 years.” and that “liberating Palestine” would solve all the world’s problems, although he did not elaborate on exactly how that might work.

In a speech published on his website Thursday, Ahmadinejad said the ultimate goal of world forces must be the annihilation of Israel.

Many watchers are of opinion that this is a direct fulfillment of Psalm 83 that says, “They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee.”
