Thousands of jellyfish and Portuguese man o’ wars recently washed ashore on South Padre Island, mostly dead but some still alive, and millions more could be on the way, KRGV Channel 5 reported.
Portuguese man o’ war, or bluebottle, is a jelly-like creature with venomous tentacles that can deliver a powerful sting. Visitors have been warned to watch where they step and where they swim along the beach as “scattered among the shells and tangled in the seaweed are thousands of poisonous little threats.” It also happened last year but there’re a lot more this year.
