Iran shot down US drone, threatened to retaliate for incursion

Iran has shot down a remote-controlled reconnaissance drone operated by the US military in the eastern part of the country, Iran’s PRESSTV quoted senior Iranian military official as saying.

The unmanned stealth aircraft, RQ-170, designed and developed by Lockheed Martin Company, crossed into Iranian airspace over the border with neighboring Afghanistan when the incident took place, the report said.

Iran also manufactures its own unmanned aircraft. A new long range drone was unveiled a day after the activation of the nuclear reactor in Bushehr, on August 22, 2010. The drone is called “Messenger of Death.”

According to The Telegrapgh, Iran has warned it would retaliate on foreign soil for the incursion.
